No live sperm

Post a new topicby Jude-Love on Tue Jul 29, 2008 9:37 pm

My husband and I are so confused. I was hoping that if I posted here we might get some feedback from a person or couple who have been through this.

Over the summer, we discovered that my husband has a low testosterone via several blood tests. His levels were around 180 when he had the test and they put him on Testim 1% and he had them tested about a month after that. His levels were around 400-ish at this time. He had a semen analysis last weekend and today they told us that out of his sample, there were only two sperm cells and they were dead. They said the results were "inconclusive". I think they feel that the sample wasn't good. We did have intercourse so he could achieve ejaculation so maybe that messed it up, I don't know. Now we have to do the test again. His urologist explains NOTHING to us and is very arrogant and short as well (we are switching after the next analysis is over). So, his symptoms are the following:

-low testosterone
-very little semen coming out when he ejaculates
-no sperm in his sample as far as we can tell right now

My endocrinologist told him that the Testim causes a low sperm count, but his urologist said that wasn't true. Which is part of our confusion.

I don't know. I just wish we knew what was going on.

My understanding is that your husband should abstain from ejaculating 2-7 days (maybe try 3 days) before his semen analysis. In no case should he be tested if it has been greater than 7 days. Also, he should provide the sample via masturbation (you can help), but no lotion or oils. Not sure if intercourse hurt your sample, but it is very important that the sample provided contain the first part of the ejaculate. Eating healthy and certain supplements should help with the count. Remember, it takes about 100 days to make a sperm, so it might take awhile.
